August 15 is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
I found it more than just interesting to learn that the first missionaries to the Japanese city of Nagasaki arrived on that same date in the year 1549 and that Emperor Hirohito issued the the proclamation of surrender which ended World War II on that same date in 1945.

Experience with Pregancy Centers

Has anyone in the parish had experience with Pregnancy Centers as a volunteer or otherwise? I understand that most are Christian as distinct from Catholic. Have there been any problems with "statements of faith" limiting ability to work effectively there?

I just found out that Cobb Pregancny Resource Center has opned here in Kennesaw, at 3550 Cherokee Street, less that two miles from our parish. They provide a full range of pro-life supports for women, including pregancy tests, Ultrasound (by referral to a neighboring center in Marietta or Paulding County.) St. Vincent de Paul "donation" option

Don't know whether you know this or not, but our very own SVdP group is now accepting the donation of cars and trucks and boats. They handle all the paperwork and either give the car to needy family or sell it (if repairs aren't economically feasible) with the dollars going to support the ministry. This is a great thing. I "donated" a car once (prior to SVdP program) and the feeling of satisfaction was beyond belief.

No less than Rocco Palmo over at Whispers in the Loggia posted on the 21st about the vibrant and growing Catholic community here in Atlanta.

It seems that the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church's ordination of 15 permanent Deacons (our own Rv. Mr. Manning among them), the presence of our new auxilary bishop, 15 new priests in the past year and the fact that the Archdioces has trippled its size in the past twenty years has not gone unnoticed.

I am thrilled to report that we had 32 people indicate interest in working in the Media Ministry today after all the Masses.

Just a reminder to all. We would like to have some teenagers and college students (grade 9 and up) to participate in the Media Ministry. Why? Because these kids know so much more about computers, graphics and production than we adults. I think you've done a fine job with the new site. It has a fresh look and is rich with information about our parish...a great improvement over the previous website.
