Confirmation Preparation

Dear Families,

We are so happy to begin this journey with you! We will be having a virtual program this year due to the pandemic. Our Confirmation students may choose to participate in our Families Forming Disciples program, and they will also use the Decision Point Confirmation program, which is an app and workbook-based program.  Please take a moment to review the information below to become familiar with the requirements to begin this portion of the Confirmation preparation program.  If there is anything I can do to assist you, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely in Christ,

Lisa Fiamingo

Overview

This year we are implementing a new family faith formation model for children in Pre K-Grade 12 called Families Forming Disciples. All families with children of any age are invited to participate, and please note that this program will serve to satisfy one year of the requirements for the foundational preparation for reception of the sacrament of Confirmation which typically occurs in the eighth and ninth grade (the Archdiocese of Atlanta requires two years of foundational preparation immediately leading up to reception of the sacraments which can be fulfilled by participation in a Parish School of Religion, Catholic school, or an accredited Catholic home school program).

In addition to the two-year foundational preparation, there will also be specific sacramental preparation immediately leading up to reception of the sacrament. Confirmation specific preparation typically occurs during the ninth grade year, and children receive the sacrament at the very beginning of the tenth grade year.  This year, our Confirmation specific preparation will consist of completing a portion of the Decision Point program published by Dynamic Catholic, which is an app and workbook-based program completed on your own (more information will be provided once you register).

Please note that those ninth grade children who are participating in our Families Forming Disciples program or are attending a Catholic high school or accredited Catholic home school this year are only required to complete a portion of the Decision Point program, while all others will complete the entire Decision Point program to satisfy both the second year of foundational preparation and the specific preparation requirements.

An example of a typical course of preparation to receive the sacrament of Confirmation at the beginning of the tenth grade year would be as follows:

Year I (typically eighth grade)

Children would be required to attend our Parish School of Religion (Families Forming Disciples), a Catholic school, or an accredited Catholic home school program to fulfill the requirement for the first foundational preparation year.

Year II (typically ninth grade)

Children would be required to attend our Parish School of Religion (Families Forming Disciples), a Catholic school, or an accredited Catholic home school program to fulfill the requirement for the second foundational preparation year.  And additionally, children will complete a portion of the Decision Point program as part of the specific Confirmation preparation (those choosing not to  participate in our Families Forming Disciples program and are not attending a Catholic high school or accredited Catholic home school this year are required to complete the entire Decision Point program in order to satisfy both the second year of foundational preparation and the specific preparation requirements).

Sacramental Year (typically tenth grade)

Children who have completed the Year I and Year II requirements will receive the sacrament of Confirmation at the beginning of this year (typically the very beginning of the tenth grade).
