The Feast of Pentecost

Dear St. Catherine Parish Family,

This Sunday we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost, which commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples who were gathered together in Jerusalem. The Scripture recounts that in those days after the Lord’s resurrection, our Blessed Mother joined with the other disciples in prayer, and our tradition holds that our Lady was present on the day of Pentecost, interceding for them as the Church came to birth. For this reason, our Blessed Mother is often referred to as “Mary, Mother of the Church,” and just recently, Pope Francis decided to designate the Monday after Pentecost as a new feast commemorating our Blessed Mother under this title.

As we celebrate this feast, let’s ask the intercession of Mary, Mother of the Church, to help us to serve the Lord well in our parish family, and to continue to build up the Lord’s kingdom here on earth.
