The Sacrament of Reconciliation is the normal way by which any mortal sins are forgiven. Thus, anyone who is conscious of having committed a mortal sin ought to take recourse to the sacrament as soon as is reasonably possible. Additionally, the Church recommends the regular confessions of even venial sins. A monthly confession is a very healthy spiritual practice and assists one in rooting out sin and imperfection from one’s life.

First Penance is normally received in the second grade in preparation for the reception of First Holy Communion. Parents should contact Director of Religious Education. Enrollment in Catholic school, qualifying home school, or Parish School of Religion is required for at least two years
leading up to reception of the Sacraments.

“Those who approach the sacrament of Penance obtain pardon from God’s mercy for the offense committed against him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins and which by charity, by example, and by prayer labors for their conversion”
(Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1422).
