Apply Today to Participate in the Georgia GOAL Scholarship to Support our Catholic Schools!
You can make a real impact in providing much-needed tuition assistance to many of our families by participating in the Georgia GOAL scholarship program! GOAL is a state-sponsored program that allows individuals, couples, and corporations to make a donation to our schools and then receive a 100% state tax credit (certain corporations can also receive federal tax benefits) on that amount, presuming your state tax liability exceeds your donation amount. In essence, you are able to divert a portion of your state tax liability (which you would have to pay to the state anyway) to our schools. So instead of the state receiving your tax money, the funds could go to our schools.
Although an individual can donate up to $2500, and a married couple filing jointly can donate up to $5000, there is a state cap that normally ends up only allowing approval of donations eligible for the tax credit of about half those amounts. Nonetheless, the impact that we can make by having strong participation from our parish is enormous. Just this past year, we had more than 20 students who were able to attend our schools because of the tuition assistance provided by the GOAL scholarship who otherwise may not have been able to.
You simply need to visit www.goalscholarship.org before the end of this calendar year to apply for the pre-approval to participate. Then, you will receive notification in January 2027 of the approved amount of your donation. Once you receive approval for your donation, you will be directed to make the donation online or by check within 60 days of the approval. And then, when you file your 2027 taxes at the beginning of 2028, you can designate the amount of your donation to be refunded as a dollar-for-dollar tax credit.
Please take some time soon to visit the GOAL website to complete the pre-approval application. If you have any questions, we invite you to look at FAQ on their website, or you can also reach out to Ellen Miccio, who is a member of our grade school advisory council and is also a CPA, at ellen824@aol.com.
